Cupping
Cupping and Moxibustion are part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine therapy. Moxibustion involves burning of the herb Artemisia vulgaris near the skin. The warming effect is believed to strengthen the Yang energy and facilitate healing by stimulating blood and energy flow through the meridians. Moxibustion is commonly used for turning babies in breech position. Cupping is used for muscle tension, skin conditions, flu, colds, headaches and general heat symptoms. Glass cups are warmed and placed on the skin to create suction, they mobilise blood flow and help to remove toxins from the body. Both fixed and moving cupping are available, applying massage oil for the latter to allow the cups to slide.

Deep Tissue Massage
Firm pressure and slow strokes reach deeper layers of muscle and the connective tissue surrounding muscles. Used for chronic aches and pain and areas of permanently shortened muscles, it is effective on stiff necks, upper back & low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Deep tissue massage will usually focus on a specific problem or area. Long-term muscle pain, assisting injury rehabilitation, and pain from limited mobility can all be helped.

Jikiden Reiki
Jikiden is Japanese for ‘directly passed down’. Reiki utilises the life force energy that exists around and within us to help improve the body and mind. The reiki energy is focused on the areas most needed. The reiki energy activates the body’s own natural healing process. It can be used to help with emotional or physical ailments. The client remains fully clothed during the reiki session. The physical treatment is hands-on whilst for emotional issues such as anxiety for example, treatment is given with hands-off. Natalie is also a shihan-kaku (assistant teacher) which allows her to teach and attune people to shoden (Jikiden reiki first level). You can contact Natalie if you are interested in attending a two day course. Graduates will become a member of the Jikiden Reiki Institute in Japan.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Similarly to acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine has a long and rich history of practice, dating back over 2000 years. In that time physicians have observed the effects of certain herbs in various dosages and preparations. This led to the development of classical forumlae, combining different herbs to enhance and regulate their therapeutic effects.
In current practice these formulae are adapted to suit the constitution of individual patients. Herb selection is refined according to individual diagnosis and a personalised prescription is developed.
Chinese herbal medicine continues to evolve as a practice with ongoing research that uses modern scientific techniques to explore the mechanisms and effectiveness of the herbs. This has lead to the first NHS trial of Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of recurrent urinary tract infections in conjunction with the University of Southampton.
China has a history of using animal products within its medicine, including some which are now endangered or extinct. These endangered animal parts are no longer used. Practice in the UK allows only plant based medicines to be used meaning that all of the Chinese herbs used are suitable for vegetarians and formulas can be adapted to suit a vegan lifestyle.
Herbs used are subject to regular testing for quality, pesticides and heavy metals.
